Moringa is an evergreen shrub from the family Moringaceae. It is a member of the mustard or chapparal family. Moringa oleifera...otherwise called Moringa daisy...is a palm-like tree with white flowers that have a fissured bark and taproot and a rhizome stem. Moringa was first brought to the world's attention when it was featured in the pages of a popular British magazine.
In the September/October issue of British Journal of Nutrition, an article written by S. R. Tripathi and titled "Indian Moringa: An Ayurvedic Herbal," described this remarkable palm. According to this article, Indian Moringa is "one of the great wonders of nature." The authors defined Indian Moringa as "a spectacular tree with taproot and rhizome that grows on moist coastal sand dunes in north and central India. Moringa can grow up to 15 meters high with dense, parallel-shaped leaves. It has striking dark green foliage and red-purple flowers."
The article mentioned above was written by S. R. Tripathi, a practicing Ayurvedic doctor. He is the president of the Central Board of Health Research and Development, which is one of India's leading health organizations. Dr. Tripathi further described the properties of Indian Moringa. He said it contains numerous alkaloids, which are proven to have strong anti-inflammatory effects and improve immunity. Specifically, anti-inflammatory substances found in Moringa are pterygosperma and ergosterol.
Based on the study cited above, it can be concluded that Indian Moringa extract has strong anti-inflammatory activity and lowers the levels of inflammatory substances in the body. In fact, the level of inflammatory substances in rat tissues after they were subjected to Moringa extract was remarkably less than those in controls. However, there are still some cautions for people using this extract. According to the view abstract, "The toxicities of this herb are unknown."
S. R. Tripathi went on to say that the combination of Moringa and other substances have been found to produce a concoction that can kill cells that cause allergies and asthma, without having any cytotoxic effect on healthy cells. Additionally, he said the anti-inflammatory activity of Moringa can be attributed to the presence of siddiqui glycoside, glycoproteins, mucilage prodrug and other plant sterols that have similar anti-inflammatory activity. He went on to say that these substances can be used as anti-allergic medicines and anti-infective agents, as well as anti-aging and weight management agents. In a recent study byishi Research Corporation, Moringa was also found to have anti-cancer activity. Check out here for more info about these moringa products.
Siddiqui and Moringa both have strong anti-inflammatory actions and are considered ideal for the treatment of inflammatory diseases such as arthritis. The study boyish research Corporation highlighted the efficacy of the aqueous extract of Moringa for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. The drumstick of Moringa contains medium-chain fatty acids that generate anti-inflammatory activity. The drumstick also contains saponin glycoside that is believed to activate the immune system. The drumstick of Moringa was found to be more effective than the placebo in a recent clinical trial. Read more about moringa plant on this page: https://www.britannica.com/plant/horseradish-tree.
